History and background
Midigama Fruit Farms, was established in the year of 1997 with the primary objectives of growing and processing tropical fruits for the domestic and international markets. This family managed company created a novel concept in agriculture with due considerations to ECO ideals and pro environmental concepts which setup a model Eco fruit farm with the conceived idea to promote Eco fruit farming in the village of Midigama creating a socially and environmentally friendly project and its integrated farming system earned the status of a role model worthy of emulation.
in the year 2005 Midigama Fruit Farms Ltd entered in to a joint venture agreement with Ceylinco group, company changed its name to CEYLINCO MIDIGAMA FRUIT FARMS LTD , now operates under the Golden Key group of companies of Ceylinco consolidated (a conglomerate in Sri Lanka) and carried out upgrading the infrastructure with total quality improvement with enhancement of product portfolio from fruits to coconut and spices combined to good marketing under the brand name of “VASMEE” and accelerated the on going agri-business project development of eco fruit farming in the village of Midigama and in southern region of Sri Lanka.

An Eco Fruit Farm - A truly unique model which is fully developed with five major tropical fruit trees under the canopy of coconut palms. This also includes a variety of tropical and sub tropical fruits trees on well planned terraces comprising a composting unit, and a fruit plant propagation unit in operation. And duly earned the recognition as Pioneers in Eco Fruit Farming In Sri lanka.
Processing Unit - Established in the year of 1998 at the farm gate. and the core business of manufacturing wet and dry ranges of products ranging from fruit juices, beverages, fruit jams, cordials, chutneys, sauces, chunk in juices, |
dried tropical fruits / vegetables are in production under the brand name of “Vasmee”, with special identity of ECO Products whilst generating a demand for the growing of fruits benefiting the village community.
Processing methods - Are adequately supported with a mini food lab offering assurance in the management of quality by continuously trained and professional staff. ISO 9001-2000 (QMS) Quality management system is practised since June 2003 from SLSI Accredited by R&A Netherlands.
Eco-training centre - At the farm yard provides need based training in farm development. It is also actively involved in farmer development and providing extension services in the village offering a deeper contractual relationship with the farmer communities in the village and working in partnerships with regional university Ruhuna to improve productivity in agri crops.and linking the farmers to markets.
Market out reach - The company has developed a marketing network of sales personnel in the marketing of agricultural produce under branding of “Vasmee” processed products to the regional markets, tourist hotels as well as other institutions and are currently also servicing the domestic and international markets. with a unique identity of ECO-Products physically manufactured in a Eco-friendly environment.
Production methods - Our ecological farming systems and production methods are certified as organic under EEC regulation 2092/91 since year of 2001 and in the certification programme in control union of Skal International under licensee No. 802339-EU-2005-0, and with 802339-JAS with much focused productions for international markets.

Main Activities
Ceylinco Midigama Fruit Farm, a model fruit farm equipped with a processing & manufacturing center with a laboratory, training facilities for educational and environment awareness, and a farm gate shop. We also conduct guided tours to share knowledge on how eco fruit farming is practiced to attract grower's tourist and guests.
• Processing and manufacturing center process the fruits collected from small farms / producers.
• The farm directly sells the fresh and processed fruit products to retailers, wholesalers, hotels and export markets. |
• The small farmers/producers are trained on different disciplines at the farm.
• On farm eco training facilities are provided for farmers / fruit producers, school and university students, scientists, and those who are from government sector, private sector, and NGOs interested with fruit farming, processing and marketing.
• Local and foreign tourists are provided with facilities to visit the farm and processing centre, and also Taste wide range of fresh and processed fruits, and enjoy the eco-friendly agricultural farming systems practiced and experience serenity of the environment.
• Students are given a hands on experience outside the class room to understand the eco-concept and awareness and to share the experience of eco fruit farming and how it can help the community with healthy food and healthy life.
